Two Ways to Clean Brick

Only One of Them Respects the Mortar
The mortar sets the rules.

High-Pressure Blasting

Fast, loud, and hard on the one part of your wall that can't take it.

  • Blows soft, aged mortar right out of the joints
  • Drives water behind the wall where it does slow damage
  • Strips the face of older brick and leaves wand marks
  • Knocks the green off the surface but leaves the roots to regrow
Bub's method

Bub's Soft Wash

Low pressure, the right cleaner, and a wall that stays a wall.

  • Low pressure keeps mortar joints intact and dry behind the face
  • Cleaner reaches the algae and mildew where they live, not just the surface
  • Older walls and newer veneer each get their own careful read
  • Beds wet down first and rinsed like they're ours

No surprises, straight answers

The questions Prosperity homeowners
actually ask

That's exactly why we pre-wet them. Beds against a brick wall catch everything that runs down it, so we soak them first, keep them wet while we work, and rinse them again when we're done. It's a habit, not an afterthought.

You should be worried about the wrong wash. Aged mortar is the soft spot in any older wall, and high pressure eats it. We use low pressure on purpose so the joints stay put while the cleaner does the actual work.

We ask that pets stay inside while we work, and we rinse everything down after. Once it's rinsed and diluted, there's nothing left out there with any real bite, so after that the yard goes back to being theirs.

High pressure can, and that's brick's real failure mode. Water driven behind the wall causes trouble you can't see for a long time. Soft washing uses just enough flow to apply and rinse, which is the point of doing it this way.

That white bloom is mineral salts riding out of the masonry with moisture. A gentle masonry treatment can knock it back a good deal, but honesty matters here. It's reduced, not erased, and it can return while water keeps moving through the wall.

We do, and the paperwork proves it, licensed and insured both. The coverage is a backup plan we never want to use. Old mortar is the one thing money can't easily fix, so we run low pressure and treat every joint like it matters. Because it does.

3

Your tech looks at the brick in person, checks the mortar joints, and notes the shady sides where the green lives.

4

The cost is settled in person, before a drop of water hits the wall. You say go, we go.

Questions, answered

Brick Cleaning questions in Prosperity

Brick holds a clean a good while. The texture grabs dirt slowly, so a wash about every year-and-a-half to two years keeps the green from settling into the surface before it ever takes hold. Shade sides may want attention a little sooner.

All over it, yes, from the older walls in the Caldwell Street Historic District blocks to the brick ranches and farmhouse foundations on acreage outside town. The newer builds with brick accents toward the lake coves get the same careful read. The drive between jobs is our problem, not yours.

That's efflorescence, mineral salts carried out of the masonry by moisture. A separate gentle masonry treatment can reduce it noticeably, but it's not a one-and-done fix. As long as water moves through the wall, some of it can come back.

High pressure can, badly. Aged mortar is softer than the brick around it, and a strong stream can blow it right out of the joint or force water behind the wall. That's why we don't pressure wash brick at all. Low pressure and the right cleaner do the work instead.

Usually, but it depends on the paint. Sound, well-bonded paint typically handles a gentle soft wash fine. Flaking or aging paint may lift no matter how careful the method, so we look at it first and tell you what we see before we commit.

We can treat them, with an honest asterisk. That splash line near the ground is mineral iron stain from the red clay, and it needs a separate treatment from the regular wash. It often improves a lot, but deep-set clay stain may not fully lift.

If you’re considering using Bub’s Pressure Washing & Softwashing, I can’t recommend them highly enough—this is one of those companies where the people make all the difference. From the very first interaction, their team stands out. They’re responsive, easy to work with, and genuinely care about doing things the right way. You can tell immediately that they take pride in their work—not just in the results, but in how they treat their customers. It’s rare to find a group that combines professionalism with that level of personal accountability. What really impressed me was the consistency and attention to detail. They don’t cut corners, they communicate clearly, and they follow through on exactly what they say they’re going to do. That kind of reliability builds instant trust, and it’s clear why so many people refer them to neighbors and friends. The service quality itself is top-tier. They approach each job with precision and care, making sure everything is done thoroughly while also respecting your property. Little things—like cleaning up after the job or going the extra step to make sure everything looks perfect—are where they really separate themselves from typical service providers. But honestly, what sets Bub’s apart most is the character of the team. There’s a strong sense of integrity and work ethic behind everything they do. You don’t feel like you’re just another job on the schedule—you feel like they actually care about delivering a great outcome. If you want a company that combines high-quality work with outstanding people and service, Bub’s is exactly who you should call.

Brick Cleaning in Prosperity, old Frog Level

Your local Prosperity brick cleaning crew

Brick and mortar aren't the same material, and they don't age the same way. The brick itself is tough. The mortar between it is softer, and on the older walls around the Caldwell Street Historic District that mortar is doing all the quiet work of holding the wall together. Out on the acreage and toward the Saluda-side coves it's a different picture, newer veneer with a solid finish that still goes green on the shade side under the trees. Old wall or new veneer, the method has to answer to the mortar first. We soft wash, which means low pressure that kills the growth at the root and rinses clean without chewing at the joints or forcing water behind the wall. That's the whole job in a sentence. Respect the mortar, remove the green.

Prosperity is the quiet side of Newberry County's lake country, an old rail town built around a walkable square, with older clapboard and brick homes under mature shade trees in and around the Caldwell Street Historic District. Out past town the land stretches into acreage lots with long driveways and outbuildings, then drops to the Saluda-side coves of Lake Murray, where newer builds in Stewart Landing and The Pointes of Plantation Pointe sit close to the water. Damp air off the coves, deep tree shade in town, and red-clay Piedmont soil keep north-facing siding, roofs, and concrete greening up faster than most owners expect.

In Stoney Hill, Stewart Landing, and Harbor View Estates, or anywhere else around Prosperity, we come to you for brick cleaning, no trip fee.

While we're at your Prosperity place, we can knock out your house washing, roof cleaning, and window cleaning too, all on the same trip with no second trip fee.

Our process, step by step

How We Actually Wash Brick

The method matters more on brick than almost any other surface. Here's ours, step by step.

We check the mortar condition, the type of brick, and where the growth is worst. Older joints near the historic blocks get a gentler plan than newer veneer out on the acreage.

Beds, shrubs, and grass against the wall get soaked before anything else. We keep them wet the whole time we work.

The soft-wash mix goes on at low pressure and gets time to sit. That dwell is what kills the algae and mildew deep in the pores instead of just rinsing the color off.

The wall gets a low-pressure rinse, then the plants get another one. We leave the brick clean and the joints exactly as we found them.
