Brick Cleaning in Lexington, SC by Bub's

Everything your brick cleaning covers

  • Mortar-safe by design: low pressure so the joints between the brick stay solid, never blown out or pitted
  • Kills the lake-humidity algae and mildew down in the porous brick face, not just rinsed off the surface
  • Worked hardest on the shaded, north, and lake-facing walls where the green takes hold first
  • That white powdery bloom is efflorescence, a mineral and not growth; we can reduce how it shows but nobody erases it for good, and we'll say so up front

The right tool for the job

A hard pressure tip vs.
a mortar-safe soft wash

High-Pressure Wand

How a brick wall gets damaged

  • Chews soft mortar joints out from between the brick
  • Drives water back behind the wall where it doesn't belong
  • Only rinses the green off the top. Leaves the growth alive in the pores
  • Can't touch efflorescence or iron rust anyway, just batters the wall trying
Bub's method

Soft Wash + Dwell

What builder-grade brick needs

  • Low pressure keeps every joint solid, nothing blown out or pitted
  • The cleaning solution kills the algae and mildew down in the pores
  • Even rinse brings the whole face to one uniform color, no streaks
  • Honest read on efflorescence and iron, reduced or flagged, never over-promised

No surprises, straight answers

The questions Lexington homeowners
actually ask

It can, and that's the whole reason we don't do it. The brick is tough, but the mortar between it is soft. A hard tip chews the joints out and forces water behind the wall. We soft wash at low pressure and let the solution do the cleaning, so the joints stay solid and intact.

Yes. That green is algae and mildew, and the cleaning solution kills it down in the porous brick where it's growing, not just off the surface. We give the shaded north and lake-facing faces extra dwell time since they hold the most growth, and the wall comes back one even color.

That's efflorescence. A mineral salt, not growth, so the wash won't lift it. We can dry-brush and treat it to reduce how it shows, but as long as moisture keeps moving through the wall it can return. We'll be honest that it gets softened, not erased for good.

That's a separate job. Rust and red-clay staining are iron, not algae, so the regular wash won't touch them. They take their own iron treatment that may only lighten the mark, and a deep one can barely move. We'll flag it and tell you straight what to expect before we try.

Yes. We soak every bed and shrub against the wall before we start and rinse them down after, so the solution never dries on foliage. Keep pets inside during the wash and an hour or so after while it dries. Once it's rinsed and dry, the area's fine.

Yes. Bub's runs veteran-owned, licensed, and fully insured, so the coverage is set before we ever park out front of your brick. The owner works the wall right alongside the crew.

Getting your quote, step by step

How getting your free quote works

From your first message to a real price, it's four steps, and we sort the green from the efflorescence on the wall before we quote a thing.

1

Call or fill out the form and tell us what you've got. The brick going green on the shaded side, a white chalky bloom, some rust by a spigot. That's all the booking team needs to get you started.

2

Expect a quick turnaround, often a same-day reply to settle on a time that fits your week.

3

Before any water runs, a tech walks the walls with you, sorting the green algae from the white efflorescence and any iron-rust staining, checking how fresh the mortar is, and finding the shaded and lake-facing faces that need extra dwell. That's what sets a gentle, mortar-safe plan and a real price.

4

The tech sizes up your actual walls and gives you a straight price on the spot, free, no obligation, no trip fee. Give the go-ahead and we get to work.

Questions, answered

Common Lexington brick cleaning questions

Yes. On brick the cleaning is the chemistry, not the force. A solution kills the algae and mildew down in the porous face and the mortar lines, and a gentle rinse carries it off. High pressure would clean the brick too, but it blows out soft mortar joints doing it; soft wash gets the same clean wall without that damage.

That's efflorescence. Mineral salt working its way out of the masonry as moisture moves through it, and it's common on newer brick around the lake. It isn't algae, so a regular wash won't lift it. We can dry-brush and treat it to reduce how it shows, but it can come back as long as water keeps moving through the wall. It's honest to say nobody erases it permanently.

On the builder-grade brick all over Lexington's newer neighborhoods we almost always soft wash. The brick itself is durable enough for pressure, but the mortar between it is the weak point, and since the cleaning solution does the real work anyway, soft wash gets the wall clean without forcing water into the joints or behind the trim.

Brick holds growth a little less than siding, but the Lake Murray humidity still greens up the shaded faces over the seasons. Most homes around here do well on about a about every year-and-a-half to two years rhythm, sooner if your place sits low near the water or stays shaded most of the day off Old Cherokee or Corley Mill.

Maybe, and I'll be straight before we touch it. Orange-rust streaking is iron, usually from a sprinkler, a downspout, or red clay, not green growth, so the algae wash won't move it. It takes a separate iron treatment that may only lighten it, and deep staining can barely budge. We'll point it out and tell you honestly what's worth doing.

We do. All over Lexington and Lake Murray country, from Gardendale and Kings Grant to Coventry Woods, Harrisburg, and Harbor Side, out the Old Cherokee and Corley Mill side. We come to you with no trip fee, and if you're right on the edge of the area, reach out anyway.

First time using a company to clean the exterior of our home, because I’m very particular. We could not be more pleased. The cleaning of paint trim, gutters and windows exceeded expectations. The two young men performing the work were exceptionally polite and hard working. We’ll schedule their service again.

The 3 technicians who pressure washed our home today exceeded our expectations, demonstrating dependability and trustworthiness. Most of our interaction was with Connor who was outstanding but Riley and the other young man were impressive too. We also would like to mention that we were impressed with Jaden as he was our initial point of contact and made the sale to us. Keep up the excellent work!

Brick Cleaning in Lexington, Lake Murray country

What sets our Lexington work apart

Drive through the new sections of Gardendale or Coventry Woods and you'll see it: handsome builder-grade brick already going dull and green on the side that never catches sun. That's not the brick wearing out. It's algae and mildew, fed by the humidity rolling up off Lake Murray, settling into the porous face and the mortar lines where it stays damp longest. The instinct is to rent a pressure washer and hammer it clean. That's the one move that costs you, because the brick can take pressure but the mortar between it can't. A hard tip chews soft joints out and drives water back behind the wall. So we soft wash. A cleaning solution kills the growth down in the pores, we give it room to work, then rinse it off even and gentle. One honest heads-up: if you've got a white chalky bloom on the brick, that's efflorescence, a mineral, not green growth. We can soften how it shows but nobody erases it for good, and I'll tell you that straight before we start.

Lexington sits on the south shore of Lake Murray, and all that lake humidity is hard on exteriors. North-facing siding, shaded roofs, and pool decks green up fast from the dam down through the neighborhoods off Old Cherokee and Corley Mill. It's also one of the fastest-growing towns in the state, so there's a lot of newer vinyl and builder-grade brick that does best with a gentle soft wash rather than high pressure.

We bring our brick cleaning to Indian Pines, Coventry Woods, and Gardendale and the rest of Lexington, with the same crew and the same care.

While we're at your Lexington place, we can knock out your house washing, roof cleaning, and window cleaning too, all on the same trip with no second trip fee.

Veteran-owned, and we treat your home like it's ours.

Our process, step by step

How a mortar-safe brick wash goes at your place

Here's the whole run on a brick home around the lake. Low pressure that keeps every mortar joint solid, even across the face so the wall comes back one color.

We walk the brick with you and sort out what we're actually looking at. Green algae and mildew on the shaded faces, the white chalky efflorescence that's a mineral and not growth, any iron-rust streaking near a spigot or downspout. On a newer build the mortar's still relatively fresh, so we note where the joints look tender and plan to keep the pressure off them entirely.

Every bed, shrub, and patch of grass along the foundation gets a heavy drink before we spray a drop, and we keep it wet straight through. The cleaning solution is only rough on plants if it dries on the leaves. Keeping everything saturated is how your landscaping comes out of this untouched.

The solution goes on at low pressure and gets real dwell time, so it kills the algae and mildew down in the pores of the brick instead of just rinsing the green off the top. That dwell is the whole job. It means the growth dies at the root and comes back slower, and it's why we never need the kind of pressure that wrecks a mortar joint.

A gentle rinse pulls the dead growth off and brings the wall to one clean color, and we give the shaded north side and the spots under the eaves a second pass since those hold on longest. If there's efflorescence to dry-brush or an iron stain to flag, we handle that here and tell you honestly what'll show improvement and what won't.
