Quicker, and at the roof's expense. Those stone granules are the shingle's sun protection, and an older roof has already shed part of its coat. A hard blast scours off more, and the streaks come back anyway because the roots ride it out. The soft wash takes longer, treats the roof kindly, and kills the growth instead of giving it a haircut.
It may not, and we tell you up front. Orange or brown streaks under metal are usually rust, a mineral stain rather than a living growth, so the solution that kills algae won't fully lift them. A separate treatment can lighten rust, and a deep stain may still hold on. When we look at the roof, we'll sort out which marks are growth and which are mineral.
In time, yes, and we'd rather tell you that than pretend. After a root kill the algae has to start over from nothing instead of regrowing from live roots, so the clean holds a good while longer than a rinse would. Shaded slopes green up first, so if limbs hang over the roof, trimming them back buys extra time.

The order below never gets shuffled. It's how the wash stays gentle from the first pass to the last.
Beds and shrubs get soaked with plain water, pets go inside, and anything on the porch that shouldn't get wet gets moved or covered. We map where the runoff will travel before we start.
We apply the diluted mix at low pressure from the ladder and the eaves where we can reach. We stay off the shingles as much as the job allows, we don't step onto a wet roof, and any footwork happens carefully on dry shingles.
The solution sits and soaks into the growth, killing it at the root. No scrubbing and no blasting, just chemistry finishing what water alone can't.
Plants get a final rinse, gutters get flushed through, and we look over every slope with you from the ground. We point out any moss or lichen that will keep lightening on its own, so the slow fade doesn't worry you.
