The finish line on this job is a hard rain you barely hear. Water slides into the troughs, finds the downspouts, and moves out at the splash blocks. Under oaks this old, that result takes real work. Stringy catkins load the runs in spring, and the big leaf drop fills them again in fall. Rain mats it all down into something closer to felt than loose leaves. So we dig the troughs out by hand, open the elbows, and flush the lines through. When the next storm arrives, you'll notice the quiet.
Forest Acres is named for its trees, and the name is honest. It grew up as a wooded suburb east of downtown Columbia, and today its brick ranches and split-levels from the 1950s and 60s sit under one of the oldest, heaviest hardwood canopies in the Midlands. Our process, step by step
Same sequence at each house, because shortcuts surface the first time it pours.
We walk the gutter run first, marking sags, stain trails, and which downspouts carry the most water. That map tells us where the heavy digging waits before a ladder ever goes up.
Matted catkins and packed leaves lift out in handfuls and go straight into buckets. Hand work spares the hangers and brings up the wet bottom layer that won't rinse free.
Drops get cleared from the top down, and a stubborn one gets worked from both ends. The elbow is the pinch point, so it gets opened and flushed until the run takes full flow.
Water goes through the whole system while we check each outlet at the ground. Then walks get rinsed, beds get tidied, and the debris rides out with us.
