What's included in your gutter cleaning

  • Trough debris pulled out by hand, clearing the real packed clog under the mature canopy, not rinsing it around
  • Downspouts and corner elbows flushed and watched until they drain, the spot older systems plug first
  • Keeps storm overflow off the older brick and trim and away from a foundation that's been settling for decades
  • Tiger-stripe streaks on the gutter face are oxidation, a separate brightening service we'll point out, never bundled in quietly

The right way to clear a gutter

A leaf blower off the roof vs.
a real hand-clear and flush

Blower or Garden Hose

Why the clog comes right back

  • Blasts the dry top layer around but leaves the wet matted debris packed in the trough
  • Never touches the downspout elbow, where an older system really plugs
  • Scatters catkins, grit, and red-clay sediment across the roof and into your beds
  • No way to confirm the water actually runs clean to the outlet
Bub's method

Hand-Scoop + Flush + Flow Check

What an older, tree-shaded run needs

  • Packed wet debris pulled out of the trough by hand so the channel is genuinely empty
  • Every downspout and corner elbow flushed and watched until it drains
  • Water run through and confirmed flowing clean all the way to the outlet
  • Debris bagged and hauled off, nothing left in your landscaping

The questions Columbia homeowners
actually ask

On the older Columbia streets it's the mature canopy: oak catkins, seed pods, maple helicopters, and leaves dropping all season, matted down wet by the river-valley humidity. Mixed with shingle grit and red-clay sediment in the bottom of the trough, it packs solid, which is why hand-scooping beats hosing it around.

That's almost always the downspout or the corner elbow, not the trough. On older systems the debris washes down and jams the elbow where the gutter turns to head down the wall, so water backs up even when the channel looks open from the yard. We flush every downspout and watch it drain to clear that choke point.

Not with a cleaning. Those streaks are oxidation set into the painted gutter face, and clearing the trough doesn't touch them. Brightening that face is a separate service with its own product and process. We'll point it out and tell you honestly whether it's worth doing, but we never quietly fold it into a cleaning.

They can. When the trough backs up, storm water spills over onto the older brick and trim and pools along a foundation that's been settling for decades. Keeping the gutters clear sends the water out and away the way it's supposed to go, which is the whole point of having them in the first place.

Yes. A gutter cleaning is mechanical. We're scooping debris and flushing with water, no harsh chemicals going into your beds. We bag the debris and haul it off instead of leaving a pile, and the flush water is just water clearing the downspouts, so the yard and pets are fine.

Yes. Bub's is veteran-owned, licensed, and fully insured, which matters on the taller two-story rooflines around here. We set up stable and work safe, and you're covered before we ever climb. You're hiring the owner and the crew who do the work.

Getting your quote, step by step

How getting your free gutter quote works

Getting a gutter quote is quick, and the number comes off a real look at your roofline and runs. Here's how it goes from your first message to a price you can trust.

1

Call or fill out the form and tell us what you've got: a one or two-story home, how many trees hang over the roof, whether the gutters are overflowing in storms. That's all the booking team needs to get you started.

2

Someone reaches back fast, often the same day, and locks in a time that fits. They keep you posted on who's coming and when, so you're never left waiting on a callback.

3

Before any ladder goes up, a tech walks the home with you: the height and length of the runs, how packed the trough is under the canopy, where the downspouts head down, and whether the gutter face has oxidation streaks you might want brightened separately. That sets the scope.

4

The tech sizes up your actual gutters and gives you a straight price on the spot. Free, no obligation, no trip fee. Give the go-ahead and we get to work.

Questions, answered

Gutter Cleaning questions in Columbia

We pull the debris out of the inside of the trough by hand, flush the downspouts and the corner elbows, and confirm water runs clean all the way through. That's what keeps the rain channeling off the roof and away from the house instead of spilling over the edge onto the brick.

The mature oaks and sycamores over the older Columbia streets drop catkins, seed pods, helicopters, and leaves all season, and our river-valley humidity keeps it wet so it mats down heavy in the trough. The shingle grit and red-clay sediment settling in the bottom packs it tighter. Most homes here do well on about a about every year-and-a-half to two years rhythm, sooner under a heavy canopy.

No. Those streaks are oxidation baked into the gutter face, and that's a different job from clearing the trough. Cleaning gets the inside flowing again; brightening the streaked face is a separate service. I'll point it out and tell you straight whether it's worth doing on your gutters.

Usually worth cleaning. A lot of the original runs around Five Points and Olympia have plenty of life left. They just pack solid under the old trees and back up at the elbows. We clear them out and check the flow; if a section's actually failing we'll tell you honestly, but most older systems just need the debris out.

Most homes here do well on about a about every year-and-a-half to two years schedule. Bump it up if you sit under heavy oaks or sycamores like a lot of the older streets do. That canopy drops debris most of the year and plugs the downspout elbows fast.

Yes. All over Columbia, from Five Points and Olympia out toward the river and the older tree-lined streets nearby. We come to you with no trip fee inside the area; if you're right on the edge, just reach out and we'll let you know.

First time using a company to clean the exterior of our home, because I’m very particular. We could not be more pleased. The cleaning of paint trim, gutters and windows exceeded expectations. The two young men performing the work were exceptionally polite and hard working. We’ll schedule their service again.

I recently used this pressure washing service and was very impressed with the entire experience. The team was extremely professional from start to finish. They arrived right on time and immediately got to work, staying focused and working nonstop until the job was fully completed. What really stood out to me was the quality of the results. Compared to other companies I’ve used in the past, this was by far the best outcome I’ve seen. Everything looked noticeably cleaner and well cared for. I would absolutely use their services again in the future and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to friends and neighbors looking for reliable, high-quality pressure washing. Mark

Gutter Cleaning in Columbia, Soda City

What sets our Columbia work apart

A lot of the homes around Five Points and Olympia have been standing a long while, and so have the gutters, older runs sitting under the big oaks and sycamores that line these established streets. Those mature trees drop a season's worth of catkins, seed pods, maple helicopters, and leaves right into the trough, and on a river-valley summer like ours that wet debris turns to a heavy mat that won't move on its own. Add the grit that washes off the shingles and the rusty red-clay sediment that settles in the bottom, and an older gutter packs solid fast. We clear it the honest way, by hand: debris scooped out of the trough and the downspouts flushed until they actually run. One thing up front: the dark vertical streaks on the front of the gutter face aren't debris, that's oxidation, and brightening those is its own separate job from getting the inside flowing.

Columbia sits where the Saluda and Broad rivers meet to form the Congaree, and that river-valley humidity, paired with some of the hottest summers in South Carolina, is exactly why exteriors here grow algae so fast. From the older brick around Shandon and Five Points to the homes in Forest Acres and out toward Lake Murray, the Midlands' iron-rich red clay leaves a rusty tint on top of the green, and a garden hose won't touch either one.

From Childs, Jaggers Terrace, and Sandwood, Columbia homeowners count on us for gutter cleaning done right.

While we're at your Columbia place, we can knock out your house washing, roof cleaning, and brick cleaning too, all on the same trip with no second trip fee.

Our process, step by step

How we clean a Columbia home's gutters, start to finish

Here's the whole run on an older home under the canopy. Hand-cleared, flushed, and checked, and we'll show you the before and after at the trough so you know it's actually clear.

Before anything, we set up stable and walk the roofline. On the older homes around Five Points and Olympia the runs are longer and the fascia's been through a few decades, so we check how the gutters are hanging and where the debris has packed worst. Usually the shaded north runs under the heaviest oaks.

We pull the debris out of the channel by hand rather than blowing it around. Under mature trees that means wet leaf mat, oak catkins, seed pods, helicopters, and the shingle grit and red-clay sediment that settles in the bottom of an older run. Hand-clearing is the only way to get a packed trough genuinely empty.

A trough can look clear and still back up at the corner elbow. That's the choke point on most older Columbia systems. We flush each downspout and watch it drain, then work any clog free so the whole path runs, not just the easy stretch you can see from the yard.

We run water through and watch it carry clean to the outlet and away from the house. The debris gets bagged and hauled off, not piled in your beds. Quick honest note here. If the gutter face has dark oxidation streaks, that's brightening, a separate job, and we'll tell you whether it's worth doing.
